Australian Homespun - June 2018

(nextflipdebug5) #1
matching, and sew across the bottom
raw edge^11 ⁄ 8 in from the raw edges.

15

Place an ear on the right side
of each body shape where
indicated by the placement markings,
open side facing forwards and raw
edges matching. Stitch them in place
using a^1 ⁄ 8 in seam.

16

Clip into the seam allowance
around the curved edges of the
head gusset. With right sides together,
pin one side of the head gusset to the
body from D to F, matching the raw
edges and F circles. Sew between
D and F, sandwiching the ears in
the seam. Repeat this step to sew
the other side of the head gusset
to the other side of the body.

17

Clip into the seam allowance
of the face on the C-D edge.
With right sides together, sew the face
shape to the face gusset from circle C
to the edge of the fabric at D. Repeat
this step to sew the other face shape
to the other side of the face gusset.

18

With right sides together and
starting from the nose, sew the
face shapes together halfway along
the C-E edge.

19

With right sides together,
pin the face to the body from
E-D-D-E, matching the raw edges
and seam lines. Sew in place. Trim
the face seam allowances back to
about^1 ⁄ 8 in and cut off the point of
the seam allowance at the nose.
Turn the head right side out and
push the nose all the way out.

20

With three strands of black
embroidery cotton, satin stitch
the nose on the face gusset from the
marked line to the tip. When you
reach the tip, work a straight vertical
stitch down the middle of the seam
line and work two straight stitches in
a very shallow V shape for the mouth.

21

Change to black machine-
sewing thread and backstitch
the eyes securely in place where
marked. Use three strands of white
embroidery cotton to work two or
three tiny straight stitches on the
eyes to form the highlights.

22

Turn the head inside out
again and sew the front neck
seam from where you left off in Step
18 to circle A.

23

Sew the back seam from F
to the tail slit, then sew over
