Wind the tape around the ring on a wide angle.
Each wrap should lie adjacent to the previous one,
without overlapping it. Shannan recommends holding the
tape tight to the ring with the thumb and fi ngers of one
hand and using the other hand to wind. When you get
back to the beginning, trim the tape at an angle so that it
just overlaps the beginning, add a dab of glue underneath
it and glue it in place. Repeat Steps 12 and 13 to wrap
tape around the plain ring.

FINISHING

Cut some small scraps of fabric from the excess
evenweave. Peg the bottom edge of the stitched
fabric+styrene shade around the fi tted ring – the spokes
of the fi tted ring need to be facing up inside the shade
and the edge of the styrene needs to be exactly aligned
with the outer edge of the ring. Use the scraps under the
pegs to avoid their marking the stitching. Then repeat the
process to peg the other end of the shade to the plain
ring. Check that the vertical threads in the shade lie quite
straight and that you haven’t twisted the fabric between
the top and bottom rings inadvertently.
