Rachael Montgomery

using the WW app and didn’t
feel deprived, but instead found
her diet transformed, with
vegetables and fruit making
a daily appearance.
“I laugh every morning as
I eat breakfast, as I’m probably
eating more vegetables in that
one meal than I used to eat
all week. And I used to dodge
fruit, but now I look forward
to a couple of pieces each day,”
she says.
As the weight fell off and she
started to value herself more,
her confidence also grew – so

much so that she let the local
primary school know she was
available for casual work, which
led to a permanent full-time
role in her speciality of teaching
children with hearing loss.
She also works at a fashion
boutique on Sundays, indulging
her passion for clothes. After a
big throw-out of all the clothes
that were too big, she’s now
looking forward to replenishing
her wardrobe.

Ready for love
Rhonda had lost weight on the
program about 10 years ago, but
over time a few kilos crept back
on, and then she was left shattered
by her poor relationship.
However, she now goes to
a boxing class two days a week,
walks daily, cooks healthy meals,
goes out with friends and also
tries to get eight hours of sleep

  • which can mean early nights
to be up at 5.30am to exercise.
    Her passion for photography
also keeps her active as she
explores new areas to shoot and
But the effort has all been
worth it, and while she still has
a few kilos to go before reaching
her goal weight of 74kg, Rhonda
finds it hard to believe she’s
come so far in a year.
    “I’m really happy in myself.
I’m nearly in tears just thinking
about it – the makeup girl won’t
be too happy though! It’s just
such an opportunity and I’m so
grateful for it,” she says. “And
this shoot is so much fun today

  • I’m in a good place.
    “[Joining WW has] just given
    me a new life. I don’t think
    that’s an exaggeration, and it’s
    definitely how I feel about
    myself. I’ve lost weight, I’m
    healthier and I’m embracing
the exercise –and it’s all good
    for me mentally as well.
“Now I just have to look for
love! If it doesn’t happen, well,
it’s still been a good life. I’ve got
    lots of wonderful friends and
plenty to keep me busy.” #

LESSONS
I LEARNED ALONG
THE WAY...

1

TRACKING MAKES
WW EASY!
I aim for a blue dot
every day and when I’m
preparing and eating food
at home, I portion out my
cooking. Planning helps me
allocate points throughout
the day so I don’t miss out
on favourites.

2

WATER – MY BODY
NEEDS IT!
I track my water intake
daily and I feel better on
the days when I meet my
targets. My skin, hair and
nails are loving my new vegie
and water regime too.

3

EXERCISE IS GOOD
FOR MY MIND AS
WELL AS MY BODY.
Fresh air, physical activity
and moving instead of
sitting have all made me
feel years younger and
more energetic. I now find
reasons to include exercise
in my days, I can participate
in more activities and my
confidence levels have
been boosted.

In December 2016 (above left)
Rhonda was in a “dark place” –
but a year later (above right) her
outlook is completely different.
