Michaela and Liam
bottled their
own wine.BLUNDSTONE BRIDE The couple
wanted their reception space to be
‘a warm and loving environment’.
Table centres combined Georg
Jensen candelabras with soft
flowers — such as hydrangeas,
agapanthus, berzelia buds, green
trick and rice flowers. The speeches
were a highlight of the evening, with
the parents of the groom performing
a combined speech; the groom and
best man acknowledging that had
gay marriage laws been passed it
might have been them standing at
the altar that day; and says
Michaela, who works in
construction project management,
‘During Liam’s speech I loved the
line where he said that much to his
dismay I had opted for a hard hat
and Blundstones in my
profession in lieu of his
idea of my potential
as a Victoria’s
Secret model.’BREATHTAKING SILHOUETTE
Michaela designed the wedding
stationery herself, incorporating a
lace doily motif. This appeared again
on the labels of the self-bottled wine
the couple gave as bomboniere, and
in the flower arrangements with
which Liam’s mum, Michele,
decorated the church pews. ‘Our
theme was classic and elegant, and
Michele did a beautiful job,’ says
Michaela. She also fondly
remembers their three little pageboys
and three little flower girls ‘walking
perfectly, hand in hand, down the
aisle’. For Liam, one of the most
tingling moments of the ceremony
was seeing his bride in silhouette
against the brilliant sunlight when
she entered the church. After vicar
Bradly Billings had declared them
man and wife, the newlyweds joined
their guests for drinks and canapés
in the church garden, to the music of
Animata String Quartet.
