They’d known all the same people, but Amy and Matt, both 27, only met five years ago at a mutual friend’s party.

From that day, says Amy, they’ve barely been apart. On a family holiday in Fiji, Matt took Amy snorkelling at a

deserted sandbar. When they came ashore for some fruit and champagne, Matt opened a coconut to reveal a ring.

TROPICAL ROMANCE ‘It was very
romantic,’ says Amy of Matt’s
proposal. ‘It was also so great to be
able to come back to the resort and
celebrate with the family. It was truly
memorable.’ The couple were
engaged for 12 months — time they
spent planning their wedding
themselves. ‘It took a year to gather
all the individual items to get
the look we were after,’
says Amy. ‘Our colour
scheme was charcoal,
silver and white.’

HER NO. 1 Amy’s
fitted, ruched
Pronovias gown was
the first wedding dress
she tried on, in the company
of her mum and her sister. ‘I wanted
something elegant and timeless, and
I knew right away it was the dress for
me. But I thought, “You can’t buy the
first dress you see...”’ So she
dutifully attended other
appointments. Finally, Amy took her
mother-in-law-to-be and her best
friend back to see her first choice: ‘It
was unanimous, and we all burst into
tears. That was such a lovely day,’
she recalls.

Trailing bouquets are
again becoming
popular. Amy’s was
formed by wiring David
Austen roses and Dusty
Miller leaves into
a cascade.
