QUILT
Cutting

1

From the cream linen fabric, cut:

  • Three strips, 1in across the
width of the fabric. Crosscut them
    to yield four strips, 1 x 13in (A) and
    two strips,1x15^11 ⁄ 2 in (B)

  • One strip, 1^1 ⁄ 2 in across the width
of the fabric. Crosscut it to yield 24
    squares, 1^1 ⁄ 2 in (C) (leaves)

  • Three strips, 2^1 ⁄ 2 in across the width
of the fabric. From each strip,
    crosscut one strip, 2^1 ⁄ 2 x23^1 ⁄ 2 in (D)
    and eight rectangles, 2^1 ⁄ 4 x2^1 ⁄ 2 in (E)

  • Two strips, 3in across the width of
the fabric. Crosscut them to yield two
    rectangles,3x8^1 ⁄ 2 in (F); 11 squares,
    3in (G); three rectangles, 3 x 5^1 ⁄ 2 (N);
    and one rectangle, 3 x 8in (O)

  • One strip, 3^1 ⁄ 2 in across the width
of the fabric. Crosscut it to yield
    one strip, 3^1 ⁄ 2 x35^1 ⁄ 2 in (P) and one
    square, 3^1 ⁄ 2 in (I)

  • One strip, 5in across the width
of the fabric. Crosscut it to yield
    one strip,5x23^1 ⁄ 2 in (H)

  • One strip, 6in across the width of
the fabric. Crosscut it to yield one
square, 6in (J). Trim the remainder
    of the strip to 5^1 ⁄ 2 x35^1 ⁄ 2 in (K)

  • One strip, 10^1 ⁄ 2 in across the width
of the fabric. Crosscut it to yield one
    rectangle, 10^1 ⁄ 2 x23^1 ⁄ 2 in (L) and one
    rectangle, 10^1 ⁄ 2 x2^1 ⁄ 2 in (M). From the
remainder of the strip, cut three
    rectangles, 10^1 ⁄ 2 x3^1 ⁄ 2 in and crosscut
them to yield nine squares, 3^1 ⁄ 2 in (I).

From two pink print fabrics, cut:

  • Four squares, 4^1 ⁄ 2 in (flower
    petals).

3

From the remaining pink print
fabric, cut:

  • Three squares, 3^1 ⁄ 2 in (lower
    butterfly wings).

4

From the pink and white print
fabric, cut:

  • Two squares, 3in (lower butterfly
    wing decoration).

5

From one purple print fabric, cut:

  • Four squares, 4^1 ⁄ 2 in (flower
    petals).

6

From another purple print
fabric, cut:

  • One square, 6in (upper butterfly
    wings).

7

From the remaining purple
print fabric, cut:

8

From each of the three green
print fabrics, cut:

  • Six squares, 3in – a total of
    18 squares (leaves and grass).

9

From the light-value pink
and green print fabric, cut:

  • Two strips, 2^1 ⁄ 2 x 13in

  • One strip, 2^1 ⁄ 2 x15^1 ⁄ 2 in (stems)

  • One square, 3^1 ⁄ 2 in (grass).

10

From the medium-value pink
and green print fabric, cut:

  • Four strips, 2^1 ⁄ 4 in across the width
    of the fabric (binding).

Draw a diagonal line with
a pencil on the wrong side of
all of the C linen squares, from corner
to corner.

12

Pin two C squares, right
sides together, with each of
12 of the green 3in squares you cut
in Step 8, as shown. (You will have
six green squares left over – they are
used for the grass.) Sew on the lines.
Trim the corners^1 ⁄ 4 in away from the
seams. Flip the linen triangles over
so that they are right side up and
press the blocks.

To make a short flower stem,
you will need one strip, 2^1 ⁄ 2 x
13in cut from the light-value pink
