I GREW UP in Stuttgart, Germany, lived in Berlin for three
years, then gave London a go for three years, before
ending up in Australia – where I’ve been living since 2000.
GERMAN DESIGNER Ingo Maurer is my absolute lighting guru.
He’s had such ubiquitous commercial success, creating
work that’s located often within the realms of art rather than
design. I love his often humorous, minimalist style and the
unexpected materials he uses. He’s broken many of the rules
around lighting to come up with unique, sculptural designs.
LAST YEAR WAS a major highlight for me when the NGV
[National Gallery of Victoria] commissioned me to make
a huge version of my OMG light shade, which now hangs
in the Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia at Federation Square,
Melbourne. Working with an amazing team of artisans has
been absolutely essential to the growth of my studio. R
