Dancing lights

HOW I DID IT
This shot was taken on New Year’s Day near
the Jokulsarlon Ice Beach during a winter
photographic tour of Iceland. It had been raining
all week, and there was a small break in the
weather at two in the morning. This provided one

of the few opportunities to capture the Northern
Lights. I had to wait for the cloud to shield the
moon so I could capture the Northern Lights as
they danced across the night sky.

DETAILS
Canon 5DSR, 14mm f/2.8L lens, 15s @ f/2.8, ISO
1000, tripod. Capture One to manage dynamic
range and increase saturation and contrast.

HOW I DID IT
This image was taken in our
little town of Korumburra,
Victoria. Places always looks
so different at night! I waited
until about an hour after
sunset, so there would still be
some deep blue in the sky,
and used a smaller f-stop to
“star” the street lights.

DETAILS
Canon EOS 6D, 24-105mm
lens @ 40mm, 10s @ f/14,
ISO 250, tripod. Curves,
sharpening, cropping.
