This month, Gyan realised that sometimes a different

GYAN taste in make-up products is just a sister thing.

Yasmin and

I are total opposites.

Apart from sharing

the same last name,

parents and home for

19 years, we still have

quite a few differences, including:

My sister HATES ice cream, despite

working at the local ice cream

parlour for years. If I’d worked there,

I think I would’ve turned into the stuff.

I’m just a peaceful, sensitive little

Pisces, while Yas is a scary Scorpio.

Well, I’d say scary to me, anyway.

She’s never readHarry Potter. Those

books are pretty much my bible.

While I’m short with short dark hair,

she is tall with long light hair.

She’s strong and tough. I’m an

uncoordinated, total wimp. As in,

last Christmas, when I accidentally

squirted sunscreen in my eye, she was

the one who grabbed a First Aid kit

and told me, “CALM DOWN, GYAN.”

Aside from these little personality

differences, there is also a big difference

in our beauty signatures. If there’s one

thing my sister can do (besides think fast

in an SPF emergency), it’s rock a bold lip

like nobody’s business. I, on the other

hand, look like a clown if my gloss is

even the tiniest bit brighter than nude.

Hence why I’m all about the eyes.

Naturally, there are times I wish

that Yasmin was a little more like me.

I imagine a parallel universe where

we would have spent years playing

Harry Potter trivia while chowing down

on Paddle Pops, but then I remember that

if that were the case, my sister wouldn’t

be the person she is now. Because of

this, next time I see her looking beyond

amazing in a bright red lipstick, I’m not

going to be jealous. Instead, I’m going

to be thankful for all the little differences

that make us the sisters we are.
