FIX SQUEAKY FLOORBOARDS
Squeaks in your timber floorboards are caused
by loose nails. To fix it, put in a new one! Drill
a pilot hole on a slight angle through the board
into the floor joist below. Tap the nail in and
punch it just below the surface. Fill with a wood
putty to match the colour of your boards.

REGROUT TILES
Give your bathroom a quick lift by
replacing mouldy or discoloured
grout. Scrape out the old grout
using a grout rake, vacuum up the
dust then mix and apply new grout with a grout
float. Using a sponge, wipe off as much excess as
you can and when it’s dry, polish the tiles with a
rag. Don’t grout in corners or where tiles meet the
bath or vanity – use a flexible silicone instead.

CLEAN GUTTERS
To ensure gutters can
cope with sudden
summer storms, clear
them of leaves and
other debris. You’ll
need a ladder to reach.
Make sure it is firmly
anchored and never
overreach. Wear a pair
of sturdy gloves and
finish off by rinsing
down the gutters with
a hose. While you’re
up there, consider
installing a leaf guard
so you won’t have
to clean as often.

WASH DECKING
A blast with a
pressure washer is
the quickest way
to remove built up
grime from your
deck. Test it out on
an unseen spot first
as it can lift the grain
on some timbers and
make it ‘furry’. For a
complete makeover,
once the surface
has dried, finish
off with a couple
of coats of decking
oil. While you’ve got
the washer out, give
your concrete paths
and paved surfaces
a clean as well.
