Beg Garter Ridge Patt
Work 4 rows garter st.
Work 4 rows stocking st, beg with a
knit row.
Last 8 rows form garter ridge patt for
rem.
Work a further 118 rows.


Shape Shoulders
Keeping patt correct, cast off 8 (9,
10, 11, 12) sts at beg of next 6 rows,
then cast off 9 (9, 10, 11, 12) sts at
beg of foll 2 rows.
Slip rem 30 (32, 34, 36, 38) sts onto
stitch, holder for neckband.


LEFT SLEEVE
Using 4.00mm needles, cast on 40
(42, 44, 44, 46) sts.
Work 4 rows garter st (every row knit,
first row is wrong side).
Row 5: K17 (18, 19, 19, 20), inc
in each of next 6 sts, knit to end. 46
(48, 50, 50, 52) sts.
Change to 5.00mm needles.


Beg Main Patt
Working from Graph or written
instructions, cont as folls –
Row 1: Knit.
Row 2: P6 (7, 8, 8, 9), place marker,
work 2nd row of cable panel across
next 34 sts, place marker, P6 (7, 8,
8, 9).
Row 3: Knit to marker, work 3rd row
of cable panel across next 34 sts, knit
to end.
Row 4: Purl to marker, work 4th row
of cable panel across next 34 sts, purl
to end.
Row 5: As 3rd row.
Row 6: Knit to marker, work 6th row
of cable panel across next 34 sts, knit
to end.
Row 7: As 3rd row.
Row 8: As 6th row.
Last 8 rows form garter ridge patt for
6 (7, 8, 8, 9) sts at each end.


Row 9: Knit to marker, work 9th
row of cable panel across next 34
sts, knit to end.
Row 10: As 2nd row.
Cont in main patt as placed in last
10 rows, (noting that there are
16 rows to patt rep) and working
extra sts into garter ridge patt,
inc one st at each end of next
row, then in every foll 10th (8th,
6th, 6th, 4th) row until there are
66 (58, 62, 84, 72) sts, then in
every foll 12th (10th, 8th, 8th,
6th) row until there are 68 (72,
80, 86, 94) sts.
Cont in patt without further
shaping until Sleeve measures
47cm (or length desired) from
beg, working last row on wrong
side.

Shape Top
Keeping patt correct, cast off 7 (8,
9, 10, 11) sts at beg of next 4 rows,
then 8 (8, 10, 11, 13) sts at beg of
foll 2 rows. 24 sts.

Beg Saddle
Cont cable panel on rem 24 sts until
Saddle measures 17 (19, 21, 23,
25) cm, or length required to fit
across Back shoulder, ending with a
right side row. **

Shape Saddle
Next Row: Patt 11, turn.
Continue on these 11 sts.
Next Row: Cast off 2 sts, patt to end.
Next Row: Patt to last 2 sts, patt
2tog.
Rep last 2 rows once. 5 sts.
Dec one st at shaped edge in next 3
rows. 2 sts.
Next Row: K2tog, fasten off.
Slip rem 13 sts onto stitch, holder for
neckband.

RIGHT SLEEVE
Work as for Left Sleeve to **.
Work 1 row.
Shape Saddle –
Complete as for Left Sleeve.

NECKBAND
Note: We recommend using plain
yarn to sew up California knitting.

Join sides of sleeve saddles to
back and front shoulders, leaving left
back saddle edge unsewn. With RS
facing and using 4.00mm needles,
work across left sleeve saddle stitch,
holder as folls – K3, (K2tog) 5 times,
knit up 7 sts evenly along left saddle
shaping, knit up 7 sts evenly along
left side of front neck, work across sts
from front stitch, holder as folls – K8,
(K2tog, K1) 6 times, K8, knit up 7 sts
evenly along right side of front neck,
knit up 7 sts evenly along right sleeve
saddle shaping, work across right
sleeve saddle stitch, holder as folls –
(K2tog) 5 times, K3, then knit across
sts from back stitch, holder. 102
(104, 106, 108, 110) sts.
Work 3 rows garter st.
Cast off loosely.

MAKING UP
Do not press. Join left back saddle
and neckband seam. Tie a coloured
thread 18 (19, 20, 21, 22) cm down
from shoulder (centre of saddle) on
each side of back and front to mark
armholes. Sew remainder of sleeve
in position between coloured threads.
Join side seams from end of side
split patt to armhole, matching garter
ridges. Join sleeve seams, matching
garter ridges.
