When you do challenging exercises, parts of your
cerebral cortex reconfigure themselves. The brain
doesn’t have any room inside your skull to grow
bigger, so instead it creates more complex neural
junctions. “The more complex the activity, the more
the brain responds and the more the brain stays
youthful,” says exercise researcher Dr Joe
Signorile. Dumbbells, therefore, are the ultimate
brain-building tool. When you use them in your
workout, the exercises can evolve, employing more
complex movements and thus more work for your

healthier, happier, more energetic body.
