I’ve gotaPCt hat usedto run Windows7,
which Iupgradedto Windows 10.Ihad
Chrome installed and used itforyears with
no issues, but after uninstalling itIran into
problems tryingto reinstall it. Each time I
try,Iget the message,“The installerfailed
to uncompress archive.Please download
Google Chrome again.”Icontacted Google
support, but theysaid the ywere unableto
help me.Iwonder if you can?

As with many non-specific errors, this one
seems to have many potential causes and
fixes. Unfortunately,wed on’t have enough
informationto re-createthe problem, so we’re
only ableto give generic advice.
Several users claim that the installer issue
is relatedto their antivirus software, with both
Kasperskyand Sophos products cited as a
potential cause.Ify ou haveathird-party
security suite, try temporarily
disabling it, running the upgrade,
then re-enabling protection
afterwards. Some usersof
KasperskyTotal Security have
reported that theyneeded to fully
uninstall the product before
Chrome would reinstall. If you
try this, don’tforget to reinstall
Total Security afterwards.
Others have suggested that
the problem is linkedto alack
of permissionforthe installer,
or to remnantsof the previous
Chrome installation.Youcan tackle both
possibilitiesby opening theStart menu,
searchingfordisk and running Disk Clean-up
Notsos hiny Chrome
in the results. Ensure thatTemporary files is
ticked in the app, then click OK. Now visit
http://www.ccleaner.comand download and install
CCleanerFree,rememberingto opt outof the
bundled Chrome installation. Run CCleaner
when prompted, clickRegistry in the left-hand
pane,click ScanforIssues and click Fix
selected issues, makingabackup of the
Registry when prompted.
Finally,visittinyurl.com/382helpfile2to
download the self-contained Chrome installer.
Right-click the downloaded file, select Run as
administrator, and with any luck it should now
completewithout throwing up the error.
My friends andIused to be in aband back
in our school days. Thirty-something
years later,we’ve decidedto get back
together and tryto remember and record
some of the old songs. Our guitarist is
sketching out riffs and ideas on his iPhone
using the Caustic3app.I’ve installed the
Android version, and was hopingto use it
to createsome percussion and bass
tracks.Years agoIbought an M-Audio
Keystation Mini 32 keyboard, which I
hoped might be good enoughto use as
an input device, but its lead won’t fit my
phone.Isitp ossibleto get one that will,
and if so,will the keyboard work?
Glenn Armitage
The Keystation Mini 32 hasaUSB Mini
socket, so its supplied cable hasaUSB
Mini plug on one end andastandard USB
Type-Aconnector on the other.Toc onnect
it directlyto your phone,you’ll needaUSB
Gettingthe band backtogether
on the go (OTG) cable
that hasaUSB Mini-B
plug on one end, and a
USB Micro-B plug on
the other.
While this will take
care of the physical
connection,unfortunately
there’s no guarantee that
the keyboard will work
with all Android devices:
OTG support can be
rather patchy.Ifi t’s going
to work, you’ll see an Android system
notification when you first plug the keyboard
in, and it should beavailable asaMIDI input
source in the app.Ify ou don’t see the
notification you’re probably outof luck,
but there isaPCv ersion of Caustic 3.
The keyboard should work correctly with
this, using its original cable.
⬆CCleaner’sRegistry check can clean up leftovers
from previous installations
⬆Antivirus software can occasionally interfere with some
software installations
➡Ify ou can’t get the
Android appto recognise
your MIDI keyboard, try
on the PC
