The Grand Palais is a perennial favourite of Karl Lagerfeld, but this season
he transformed the 19th-century palace into an ode to that other great
French landmark, the Eiffel Tower. The collection itself was also pure
Parisian—Lagerfeld focused on the importance of shapes and silhouettes.
Ultra-feminine tweed outerwear pieces were tailored with rounded shoulders
and accentuated waists, while shirt sleeves were accented with ruffles and
dresses were adorned with feather trims. A special celebration came at the
end of the show, when the designer was honoured with the Grand Vermeil
medal (the highest honour of the city) just moments after the finale.
