A great change in the guardCaptainMegan Couto, 24, hasbecome the first woman to lead the Queen’s Guard,
but the catch is she’s not British. Rather, she is a Canadian soldier whose unit, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (named
after Queen Victoria’s granddaughter), was invited to guard the monarch as part of Canada’s 150th anniversary. No woman had led
the Queen’s Guard before because women were excluded, until recently, from close-combat ground roles in the British military.

Some attribute
Lorde’s rich style
of experimental
pop to her
synaesthesia,
a neurological
condition that
means she sees
sound as colour
and “paints” her
songs. The Kiwi
prodigy’s second
album, Melodrama,
has topped charts
in the US, Canada,
Australia and NZ.
