Like all teachers, you’ll
recognise this lot by their
armfuls of paperwork, eye
bags and the no-bullshit air of
someone who has broken up
two fist fights and marked 30
essays before you’ve had your
coffee. The new breed of super-
teacher has ambition beyond the
classroom: politics, motivational
speaking, changing the world one thinkpiece at a time.

Most likely to say: ‘You can do anything you set your mind to.’

Want to join them? Sure, you can advertise your skills on
Gumtree for $30 an hour, but sign up to private tutoring
sites and you could end up teaching a broker’s wife how
to use her new baby grand piano for $300 an hour. Those
with glittering CVs (phDs, grade-9 violin) can turn this
into a full six-figure-salary career.

Identifiable by their
Fjallraven Kånken
backpack and perpetually
windswept appearance
(from cycling every-
where), the modern breed
of charity worker is all
about finding new ways to
make a difference. They
live in an industrial
warehouse, are on the
waiting list for an
allotment and regard
heavyweights like Oxfam
as the McDonald’s of
charities compared to
their own ‘boutique’
cause. At the weekends
you’ll find them teaching
puppetry to kids from
inner-city estates.

Most likely to say: ‘Is it my
round? Hang on, I’ll set up
a JustGiving page.’

Want to join them? If you’re
applying for a job with
a charity, show some
engagement with them
beforehand, even if it’s just
following their accounts,
or donating something
each month. Also, start
out small: the big-name
charities are inundated
with many hopefuls – one
Amnesty International job
received around 2000
applicants. Look for niche
charities, or new ones.
Find them at Australian
charityguide.com.

You’ll know them
by their preppy
wardrobe, Steve
Jobs-style glasses
and suspiciously
clean sneakers. They
can be found sipping
a beer on the roof of
their co-working
space, schmoozing
investors or
explaining FinTech
is short for ‘financial
technology’ and
nothing to do with
sharks.

Most likely to say:
‘Will you back me on
Kickstarter?’

not-for-prof it FinTech
hub that fosters
start-ups across Asia

get your biz idea off

Still the unicorn
of millennial career
paths, the influencer
thinks of herself as
a ‘content creator’
while her old school
friends think of her as
a ‘lucky bitch’. Out-
side of the 30 weeks
a year they spend on
holiday, they’re found
‘collaborating’ on
‘projects’ with luxury
brands, or writing
brave blog posts
about how their
beautiful life isn’t all
it’s cracked up to be.
Most likely to say:
'Just had such an
exciting meeting,
cant wait to share!!
#exciting #meeting
#OOTD #coffee
#lovinglife'
