India’s Vegan School

With news earlier in the year that the German Environment
Ministry made the government go vegetarian for all offi cial
function, one school in Chennai has decided to go a step
further. The German International School in Chennai has
gone completely vegan. The story follows that since the
school started rescuing farmed animals this year, offi cials felt
that animal products no-longer aligned with their morals.

A typical school menu at the German International School
includes breakfasts, lunches and dinners fi lled with
vegetable and pulse-rich European and Indian dishes,
including vegan versions of meaty favourites. The school
makes cashew-cheese and mock-meats on site so that the
pupils can continue to enjoy the dishes they once relished,
without the guilt.

Ayesha Takia Plans to Open a Vegan Restaurant

The actress who has been a vegan for more than seven years has
announced she is planning to open a vegan restaurant. With the name
in progress and the restaurant under-going fi nalisation, Ayesha talks
passionately about her love for food and her vegan journey, which also
included her mother and sister adopting the lifestyle.

Her daily routine begins with a cup of herbal tea, poha, upma or tofu
scramble, with a protein and fruit/veggie rich smoothie during the day
and a typical north Indian lunch. She also enjoys desi street food and
Buddha Bowls.

The announcement of Ben and Jerry’s non-dairy range

lamented the fact that these were only available in the US,
yet it didn’t take long for the vegans of Britain to get their
voices heard and have the range launched there, proving
that brands do listen to consumers. India – take note!

The almond-milk based range contains 7 fl avours:
