Scouting Report: This has been an up-and-down sea-
son for the Ravens. A 2-0 start was followed by losing
three of the next four and a 3-3 record through six games.
Perhaps most befuddling to Coach John Harbaugh has
been the performance of his veteran quarterback, Joe
Flacco. Through six games, Flacco’s play had been bor-
derline awful, averaging 166 yards a game passing, eight
interceptions to only four touchdowns and a miserable
66.1 passer rating. You know the offense has issues
when a tight end (Ben Watson) is your leading receiver
(24 receptions) and your leading rusher (Alex Collins) is
averaging just 66 yards a game. The Ravens defense
has always been the team’s staple and this year has
hung in there and played respectably, 11th in the league
in points yielded and 16th in yards. MLB C.J. Mosley is
certainly getting it done. His 42 tackles are 20 more than
anyone else on the team and DE Terrell Suggs (4.5
sacks) can still get to the quartback.
Oakland at Miami
Date: Nov. 5 • Time: 8:30 p.m. ET
Site: Hard Rock Stadium • TV: NBC
Series record: Raiders lead 19-17-1 (including playoffs)
Current streak: Dolphins have won last 5 meetings
Last Dolphins victory: 2014 at London; Dolphins 38-14
Last Raiders victory: 2007 at Miami; Raiders 35-17
Biggest Dolphins margin of victory: 24, 2014 at Lon-
don (38-14)
Biggest Dolphins margin of defeat: 27, 2000 playoffs
at Oakland (27-0)
Scouting Report: After making the playoffs for the first time
in 14 years last season, the Raiders were a trendy dark-
horse pick over the summer to emerge as a possible AFC
representative in the Super Bowl. But, oh, how that outlook
has changed after a head-scratching 2-4 start through six
games. Heads are scratching because, even though quar-
terback Derek Carr was lost for two games with a back in-
jury, the Oakland offense was already struggling. Carr
returned against the Chargers on Oct.15 but nothing much
changed. Through six games, the Raiders offense was 18th
in the league in scoring and two spots from the bottom of
the league in yards per game at 278. Perhaps the strangest
thing of all has been the use, or lack thereoff of running
back Marshawn Lynch. After compensating Seattle during
the offseason to bring “Beast Mode” back out of retirement,
he had just 70 carries for 257 yards through six games.
Even though Khalil Mack is still one of the best defensive
ends in the league, defensively the Raiders haven’t been
much better than the offense as their 350 yards per-game
yield was the 23rd worst in the league.
PANTHERS ON DECK— The Dolphins will play in
their third straight prime-time game when they travel
to Charlotte to take on the Carolina Panthers on a
Monday night. After perhaps suffering a little bit of
the “Super Bowl loser” blues a year ago going 6-10,
the Panthers and quarterback Cam Newtonappear
to be back on track in 2017. Newton is playing well
and the Panthers were 4-3 and in second place in
the NFC South after seven games.
