Humbrol 100
J
ust after the irst World War
the Humber Oil Company
was established in Hull and
after the Second World War
changed its name to Humbrol.
The company diversiied into
paints mainly aimed at the
hobbyist and they were there at
the start of plastic modelling.
In the UK the Humbrol
enamel and acrylic paint ranges
are one of the easiest to ind
stocked by most model shops
and many hardware shops.
But Humbrol also produces
many other items like their
comprehensive range of
illers, setting solutions and
a comprehensive range of
brushes. So for the rest of
Humbrol’s anniversary year we
will be having a look at some
of the other products from
the Humbrol range, which can
be obtained from Humbrol
stockist across the country.
HUMBROL WORK
STATION AG9156
Despite never walking past a
model shop I had never seen this
product before, and on opening
the box I immediately released
that the Work Station would
solve a number of issues that I
always have on my workbench.
Moulded in tough black plastic
this workstation is laptop size,
so perfect if you want to do a bit
of modelling in the living room
while watching television. And it
even comes with moulded handles
making it easy to move around.
Moulded into the workstation
is a selection of recessed areas
to hold items like paint brushes,
paints and pots of thinners.
These recesses are all sized for
items from the Humbrol range
but will it products from other
manufacturers as well. In fact
the only shape not catered for
are the square style used by
Tamiya. There is even a deep slot
into which you can place your
instructions for instant access.
A small lip on the front edge of
the work area will retain any
minor spills with in the tray.
So this is what you can
use all the recesses for.
- The rearmost recess is the slot to
hold the kit instructions though
you may have to fold them to it. - Next to the instruction slot
on each side you have six
deep holes that are designed
to hold brushes, pens
pencils and smaller tools. - Moving forward we have the
eight paint recesses, these
are moulded with a hollow
outer circle with a deeper
smaller circle in the middle.
This is so you can use the
paint holders for either the
standard 12/14ml paint tins
or the smaller 3ml size. - On each side of the paint
storage you have two larger
double depth cup holders yes
you can use them for a cup
of tea but they are actually
designed for larger 28ml bottles
that normally hold Humbol’s
range of thinners, varnish,
glues and setting solutions. - The centre modelling area is
A4 sized and lanked by two
smaller areas that can be used
as mixing or storage areas for
scalpels, tweezers etc. But there
is another use for the A4 area.
HUMBROL A4
CUTTING MAT AG9155
A perfect accompaniment to
the work station is this cutting
matt that its within the central
recessed area. Cutting mats
are nothing new but what
makes this special is that it also
includes scale rulers in 1/24,
1/32,1/48, 1/72and 1/76. Plus
this matt includes a very useful
template for producing the
correct alignments for three,
four and ive bladed propellers.
CONCLUSION
The workbench and cutting matt
have now found a permanent
place on my workbench. And has
also appeared at club night, as
well as a few model shows. And of
course some sneaky modelling
session while the wife watches
Strictly Ice dancing in Chelsea
or some such rubbish on TV.
