The 'Medical Advice by Radio' entry for the USA, in ALRS Voll,
is a good example of 'long range' radio facilities. That entry explains
how vessels can be connected 'through any US Coast Guard station' to
the CIRM in Roma/Italy. Looking at the CIRM entry of the same section,
it lists the US Coast Guard stations providing that facility and the form
of address (DH MEDICO CIRM ROMA) to be used for messages (e.g.,
by radio telex) through those stations. Turning to the 'Coast Radio Station
Service Details' entry for the first station listed - Boston (radio callsign
'NMF') we find that:
The station is located at position 42 20N 071 OOW, is remotely
controlled from 'CAMSLANT' (also listed in ALRS Voll) and does
not accept 'public correspondence' traffic. It will not connect normal,
routine link-calls but does accept AMVER (see 'Ship Reporting
Systems') messages and Ships Weather Reports in addition to Distress,
Urgency and Safety traffic for which it provides a:
- RT (HF) Service (for voice calls/messages using your SSB Radio).
- Radio Telex service on High Frequency (also for use with your
SSB Radio).
Example: MIV justina, callsign GJUS, MMSI 232456789
urgently requires Medical Advice. From the W. Atlantic, in
the US SRR,justina chooses the HF Radiotelephone service
prOvided by the US Coast Guard Station.
