  • STA+ (to ask about the delivery 'STAtus' of any message you
    have sent to Oostende, for store-and-forward delivery)

  • STS+ (to Send a telex message To another Ship, via Oostende
    Radio Telex service)
    (ii) RECEIVING messages from shore using TORlARQ,communications
    through Oostende Radio. Message held in OST'Mailbox'

  • Activate TOR software on the computer attached to your Marine SSB Radio;
    Select a suitable, free channel (see previous example) and call OST using
    'ARQ, Call', followed by the OST 'Selcall' Number 0480, or his MMSI
    002050480;

    • When your system synchronises with the OST automatic telex system, OST
      will exchange ~nswer Backs' with you and will send the command 'GA+?'

  • Send 'MSG+'

    I-Receive 'MOM PSE'from OST (means 'wait a MOMent ');
    ~, Receive first message followed by question 'Q,SL DELETE NR Soxxxx YI
    N+?'
    I-Send 'Y' (Yes if received OK); or 'N' (No - if repeat required; only one
    repetition is possible for any particular message);

    • When all messages cleared from OST Mailbox, OST will send 'NO
      TRAFFICIQ,RU'
      If you are out of range of OST and the station holds messages
      for you, you can retrieve those messages by making contact through
      any other CRS offering a TOR-ARQservice - call another CRS and
      ask for DIRTLX04682138+ - this will get you a landline connection
      to the OST mailbox, allowing you to retrieve your messages as if you
      had a direct radio connection.

Note: Frequencies 5376.5, 7776.5, 14719 and 19013.5 are only
used to transmit traffic lists and Belgian sports information. Traffic lists
are transmitted at five-minutes past each hour on 5376.5kHz; lO-minutes
past each hour on 7776 .5kHz; IS-minutes past each hour on 14719kHz;
and 20-minutes past each hour, between 0700-1900, on 19013.5kHz.

Question: Do I have to call OST to see if they have messages for
me? Can't I arrange for OST to call me (assuming I'm in radio range)
whenever they receive a message for my vessel?
Answer: You can use the command FREQ+ to register up to three
channels that OST can use to call you to make direct connection, and
