THE only loco other than Harry
Needle’s Class 20 No. 3 (20906)
at Earles sidings at mid-day on
May 10 was Class 66 No. 66617
on a string of cement bogies. It
was later joined a short time later
by No. 66602, coming up from
Sheffield with empty bogies.

DURING the early hours of
Wednesday, May 15, the
4M48/00.19 Coatbridge FLT-
Daventry IRFT, hauled by Class 90
Nos. 90048 and 90041, got into
difficulty in the Shieldmuir area,
when No. 90048 developed a
fault. Assistance was provided by

Nos. 90042+90045, with the train
307 minutes late at Carlisle, where
it was terminated.

CLASS 70 No. 70020 was active on
May 17, seen passing Manchester
Piccadilly with containers for
Trafford Park at 10.17.

THE 14.37TyneYard-Carlisle light
engine movement produced
solitary Class 66 No. 66540 on
May 18.

engineering possession at Market

consecutive freight trains on the
WCML in daylight.

Carlisle NewYard, hauled by Class
66 No. 66428, closely followed
by the 4Z45/10.00 Motherwell
TMD-Daventry Reception Sidings,
conveying repaired/refurbished
container flats, hauled by Class 68
No. 68034.

CLASS 66 Nos. 66302/303 were
observed passingThankerton on
Wednesday, May 15, top-and-
tailing a nuclear flask wagon while
working the 6S99/05.56 Carlisle
Kingmoor-Georgemas Junction.

THE 06.48 Daventry (Tesco)-
Mossend Intermodal was
double-headed by Class 88
Nos. 88002+88009 on May 18.

WITH the cross-country route
from Peterborough to Felixstowe
closed for the Spring Bank Holiday
weekend and with
stop-over Intermodals into
Harwich Parkeston Quay
predominantly cancelled, it
was perhaps unusual to see
two GBRf Class 66s noted in the
yard: No. 66754Northampton
Saints,with an Intermodal from
Doncaster Railport that arrived on
May 25 at 07.40, and 66722
Sir Edward Watkinthat arrived
light-engine from Felixstowe port.
The latter movement was to
handle an early morning Harwich
Refinery to NorthWalsham
empty condensate tank run
on May 29, which would not
have been able to be serviced
by Peterborough MPD with the
route through Ely unavailable.
The following weekend saw
four GBRf Class 66s in Harwich
Parkeston Quay yard. No. 66722
Sir Edward Watkinswas in the
field sidings after two stints to
and from NorthWalsham with
the condensate tanks for the
Harwich Refinery.
No. 66724Drax Power Station
had brought in the stopover
Intermodal from Masborough
late on June 1, while two others

Colas Rail Class 70 No. 70807 hauls 22 loaded PCAs over the summit at Whiteball on
June 5, running on the later path with the Moorswater cement. The working was the
