Esquimalt Drydock

Fraser River Pile Driving sent two dredges over to

Esquimalt for repair and maintenance work this spring.

The 50 m scePtrecolumBia (1965, Star Shipyards) is a

non-powered cutter suction dredge. The work order in-

cluded a five-year survey, minor bottom shell repair, spud

gate repairs, dredge ladder steel repairs, prep

and painting of dredge ladder, and prep and

painting of the hull and deck (near vessel in

photo left). The 124 m FRPD 309 (ex-HAM 309,

1983, IHC Smit Kinderdijk) is a trailing suction

hopper dredge. It received an annual survey

(class BV ), minor shell repair, hopper wear

plates, hopper door repairs/seals, port suc-

tion arm, suction and discharge valve mainte-

nance, main overflow tube renewal, and upper

hull paint (far vessel in photo left). –Esquimalt

Arrow Marine Services

Richmond-based Arrow Marine Services on

Mitchell Island has been keeping busy recent-

ly with a variety of repair projects and regular

maintenance work. One of the bigger projects

in the yard in the early summer was the 26.46

m (87') steel-hulled trawler Bluewaters (1968, Bathurst

Marine, New Brunswick). Work on the vessel included re-

pairing damage to the hull and keel, transducer repairs,

installation of new fixed stabilizer fins (sponsons), and

bottom painting (lower photo, opposite). The aluminum
