LONGEST-LASTING
HIP REPLACEMENT
As of 19 Nov 2015, the hip
replacement belonging to
Norman Sharp (UK) had
lasted 67 years 113 days.
In 1925, at just five years
old, Norman was admitted
to hospital with septic
arthritis. He spent five
years in the Royal National
Orthopaedic Hospital
(RNOH) having his hips
fused and learning to
walk again. It was another
18 years before he was
fitted with his left hip
replacement on 1 Dec 1948.
He then had his right hip
replaced on 22 Dec 1948.
Norman is shown above,
along with an x-ray of his
record-breaking left hip.

Longest
bout of yawning
In 1888, Dr Edward W Lee
reported on the case of a
15-year-old girl who yawned
continuously for five weeks.
The case was published in
the Memphis Journal of
the Medical Sciences.

The greatest officially
recorded number of
children born to one
mother is 69, to Valentina
Vassilyev, a peasant who
lived in Shuya, Russia,
during the 18th century. In
27 confinements, she gave
birth to 16 pairs of twins,
seven sets of triplets and
four sets of quadruplets.

generations of twins
Three families share this
record. Within the Rollings
family (UK) there have
been four consecutive
generations of twins,
born from 1916 to 2002.

LOUDEST CROWD ROAR AT AN INDOOR SPORTS EVENT
Fans of the Kansas Jayhawks (USA) combined to create a
roar that measured 130.4 dBA at the men’s basketball game
vs West Virginia in Lawrence, Kansas, USA, on 13 Feb 2017.
The successful record attempt actually took place before
the game tipped off. A tense match followed, ultimately
resulting in Kansas forcing a win in overtime.

Tony Yarijanian (USA)
survived third-degree burns
to approximately 90% of his
body after being caught in
an explosion in California,
USA, on 15 Feb 2004. Tony
was in a coma for three
months altogether, and
had 25 operations and
60 blood transfusions.

Spain’s Aleix Segura
Vendrell held his breath
for a lung-bursting 24 min
3.45 sec in Barcelona, Spain,
on 28 Feb 2016. Aleix is a
professional freediver.

The mouth of Angola’s

Joaquim – aka “Chiquinho”

OLDEST DRAG QUEEN
As of 15 Aug 2016, Walter “Darcelle XV” Cole
(USA, b. 16 Nov 1930) remained an active
drag queen performer at the age of 85 years
273 days. He is the owner and operator of
Darcelle XV Showplace in Portland, Oregon.
The club hosts the
longest-running
drag show on the
west coast of the USA.

ON A LIVING PERSON
Jeison Orlando Rodríguez Hernández of
Venezuela has a 40.1-cm-long (1-ft 3.79-in)
right foot and a 39.6-cm ( 1 - ft 3.59-in) left
foot, as measured in Maracay, Aragua,
Venezuela, on 6 Oct 2014. Jeison – a keen
basketball player – stands 221 cm (7 ft
3 in) tall and is 21 years old. He lives in
Maracay with his family and
has spent much of his
life barefoot. He needs
specially large shoes
