Choosing my spa treatment couldn’t have
been easier. At first, I was asked to choose
between five different treatment moods:
energy, love, soul, muscle or brain. Each one
offers something different, and for anyone
having trouble choosing, you can smell each
oil to decide which one appeals. The spa
team then gave me a quick questionnaire
to ascertain what I wanted to get out of
the massage, and what areas of my body I
wanted them to focus on.
I opted for ‘love’, not least because
the smell appealed to me the most! My
massage was wonderful. After a couple
of days of yoga and mountain air, it was
so relaxing that I managed to switch off
completely and fall asleep. Spa treatments
are not included in the price of your stay,
but all guests can make use of the sauna
and the swimming pool, and some products
are on offer to buy at the hotel reception.

Fine dining
When it comes to the dining experience,
the development of the menus has clearly
received the same thought and attention as
the construction of the hotel itself. Breakfast,

Spa time
When it was time to relax, and leave the
exercise behind for a couple of hours,
we made our way up to the Sky Spa and
SPAnorama. It’s one of the main attractions
of the hotel – and with good reason. Some
of the best views of the mountains are
from the treatment rooms. All products
in the spa are made by Claudia, Markus
Widauer’s sister, who treated us to a short
session where she explained exactly how the
products are made. Claudia is a herb expert
who gathers what she needs from the areas
surrounding the hotel to make oils, creams
and lip balms, with no chemicals added.

afternoon snacks, and a five-course meal
are all included in the cost of the room,
meaning that the appetite you work up with
those yoga classes, fitness sessions and
mountain hikes can be easily satisfied in the
Kukka restaurant.
Breakfast is offered buffet style, with
freshly baked bread a real highlight, and
the option to blend your own smoothies
from the fruit on offer. About 70% of the
ingredients used in the kitchen are organic,
and as a vegan, I was pleased to see that
the plant-based options on the menu weren’t
an afterthought, but had been considered
carefully, combining the locally sourced
ingredients in sometimes unique and
surprising ways.
If you’re looking for somewhere out of
the way, a bolthole in the mountains to
escape from your everyday worries and
keep up your yoga practice, then Holzhotel
Forsthofalm is for you. It’s a delightful hotel
that pairs luxury with a warm and friendly
welcome, and of course, plenty of yoga!
