MICROBLADING
WHAT IS IT? Microblading involves the semi-permanent implantation
of natural pigment beneath the skin. Used on eyebrows, it’s the go-to
technique for rescuing overplucked or scant eyebrows (resulting from
chemotherapy, thyroid problems or alopecia). Experienced permanent
cosmetic artist and microblading artist Manuela IncendIario (CPCP )
describes the process as recreating a brow with a natural look that doesn’t
look artificial or harsh. ‘Eyebrows are perfectly placed through a series
of 12 different symmetrical measurements using the golden ratio rule.
A flattering brow shape is then created with a wide array of pigments
to suit your skin and hair colours.’ Before doing anything permanent,
Manuela will swipe a small bit of pigment across your forehead to make
sure you’re happy with the colour. The strokes are then made to mimic
individual eyebrow hairs using the microblade pen, and the pigment is
deposited underneath the skin where it heals into the dermal layer and
gradually fades over time. Annual retouches are recommended.
AREAS TARGETED: Eyebrows
DOWNTIME: Your brow area may appear red for a day or two after
treatment. After the session you’ll need to keep the area completely
dry for three days and thereafter apply the healing balm for a period of
seven days to complete the healing process. The pigment will initially
appear rather dark, but the colour fades by up to 60% after each
session. Although numbing cream is applied prior to the start of the
procedure, it can be uncomfortable depending on your individual pain
threshold. Your brow artist should give you a comprehensive list of
self-care instructions, and you should follow post-care advice to the
letter for the best retention.

END RESULT: Your brows will appear more defined and perfectly
groomed. Our tester reported being able to wear less eye make-up as
her eyebrows appeared ‘more there’. The results should last between
12 and 18 months if post-treatment care is followed.
