Master your distance control
A solid and consistent technique is only half the
equation with pitching. You could have the best
pitching action on the planet, but if you don’t know
how far you hit your wedges, you’ll rarely hit the
ball close enough to give yourself a realistic chance
to one-putt. This part of the process is pure
preparation. On the practice ground with a range
finder, measure how far you hit each wedge with
three different lengths of backswing – and create
your own wedge yardage ‘matrix’, as shown on
the opposite page.
