THINK‘MINIMUMEFFORT,

MAXIMUM ROLL’

Many players opt to chip with just a couple of their most lofted wedges, but that’s usually not
the smartest play. As with any other shot, good chipping is all about reducing your margin for
error and giving yourself the best chance of executing the shot well. In most instances, from just
off the green, chipping with one of your straighter-faced clubs like a 6-iron or 7-iron is a higher
percentage play than, say, a 54-degree wedge. You can keep your backswing shorter and
therefore more controlled, as well as get the ball rolling forwards rather than upwards.
