Stories from around the weird and

wonderful world of yoga

Planet yoga

Cat cafe
Warning: extreme cuteness alert! Cat
Therapy, a new cafe in Santa Barbara,
is offering cat yoga and cat therapy
sessions to its customers. Stretch out
and open your spine with a nice Cat/Cow
stretch, or maybe introduce a Down Dog
into the mix, as you help support rescue
cats in the area. The cafe was started by
a musician and photographer called (you
guessed it!) Cat, who came up with the
idea after volunteering at a local rescue
shelter. It has already adopted around
50 cats and the cats involved in the yoga
are all from local shelters. Classes include
an hour of yoga followed by 30 minutes
of cuddling time. Mats – and cats –
are all provided free of charge.

Robbins best
The world’s most famous life coach and
motivational speaker, Tony Robbins, starts
each morning with a meditation to get his
day underway. As well as other exercises
and healthy eating, his morning routine
also includes deep breathing, practicing
gratitude and visualising success, as well
as other activities that borrow from the
traditions of yoga and meditation. With
a naturally energetic personality, Robbins
travels the world each year delivering
inspirational talks and has a friends
list that includes billionaires, politicians
and A-list celebrities. But it just shows
that we all need some quiet time if we
are to perform at our best. Now get to
it, people!

Hot as Hull
Once regarded (perhaps unfairly) as one
of our least glam cities, Hull’s comeback
is complete. The UK’s City of Culture in
2017, Hull is now set to become a centre
of excellence for hot yoga. A new hot yoga
studio will open next year at the £6m K2
development regenerating Kingston House
in Hull city centre. The Lionheart Hot
Yoga Hull studio is scheduled to open in
early 2018 and will also include treatment
rooms, showers plus refreshment area
serving healthy and organic food and
drink. The new development also boasts
offices and co-working space, serviced
apartments and a 100-bed hotel with its
own restaurant, gym, bar and a café with
rooftop terrace. Time to move to Hull.
