Yoga gives back in the storm
R
emember Hurricane Irma, the big storm that rocked
Florida and the Caribbean during September? Well,
a new yoga project is now underway – Project
#Ahimsana – to help the famous Florida Keys area
get back on its feet.
House of Intuition Miami (HOI) has joined forces with a group
of like-minded companies, brands, and businesses to launch the
initiative, in order to assist those affected by the storm.
Although the damage could have been far worse, Irma was
nonetheless devastating for parts of the Keys, a chain of islands that
stretch south-westwards from the tip of Florida State, connected by
a network of long road bridges.
The most famous of the ‘Keys’ is Key West, once the home of
acclaimed writer Ernest Hemingway.
During Project #Ahimsana, which runs through to December,
volunteers will travel to the Florida Keys to teach community yoga
and fitness classes and distribute donated gifts attached with
messages of love and support from the Miami community.
HOI is partnering with a local studio for each class. After the class,
the studio is provided with a stipend of money from donations to
help support reconstruction efforts.
Project #Ahimsana
Fundraisers back on the mainland look fun too. They include
beer yoga classes, taught at a local Miami brewery, Lincoln’s Beard
Brewery, followed by a Cards Against Humanity tournament for
brand partner prizes. Sounds like a good night out!
