Stories from around the weird and
wonderful world of yoga

Biel bonds
Jessica Biel has teamed up with
wellness giant Gaiam - now part of the
Sequential Brands empire on the Nasdaq
stock exchange - to help promote its
athleisure wear and yoga range. Biel
said the Gaiam brand, founded in her
hometown of Boulder, Colorado, carries
with it a trusted sense of familiarity and
dependability for her. The American
actress, model and producer also says
she has been a yoga fan for over a
decade. “Fitness and wellbeing have been
a part of my life forever,” she was quoted
as saying by online fashion site WWD.
Social network
LinkedIn’s new $85 million Ireland
headquarters includes gyms, music
rooms, baristas and, of course, yoga.
The five storey building will serve as
the company’s Europe, Middle East and
Africa (EMEA) base in Dublin. More than
80 jobs are up for grabs in the plush new
offices as the social networking company
expands its global footprint. When you’re
out of the fitness studio or done with
the yoga floor, head to the restaurant or
coffee bar, or check out the expansive
roof terrace with views across the city
from The Aviva Stadium to the Spire and
the Sugarloaf Mountains of Dublin Bay.
Flu fighters
Do yoga and smile before you head to
the doctors for a flu jab this winter. That’s
the advice from a group of researchers
at Nottingham University, especially
for those who are scared of needles. A
university study found people who were
happiest when they went for their autumn
flu jab were better protected from getting
ill. That’s because a good mood boosts
the immune system, they argue. Being
in the right frame of mind prior to an
injection can boost the body’s antibodies
by up to 14%, increasing the protection.
And if you can’t get to a yoga studio, try
watching a comedy film instead.
