Plan Time

good Samaritan, that I walk right by those beaten and bruised
all around me [Luke 10:25–37]?
There is a very distinct difference between praying over
every minor detail of our days because we don’t know what
God wants and submitting every moment of our days to His
leading.
When I’m getting ready to make dinner, I don’t tell my
husband what I’m making and ask if he’ll like it. We’ve been
married nineteen years. I already know that he doesn’t want
anything with teriyaki sauce, Brussels sprouts, or exotic sea-
food. I know that anything with a large portion of meat is a
win. And I know that a baguette earns extra wifey points.
On the other hand, when I invite guests over, I ask about
allergies and food preferences. I suggest meals and ask if they
will work for them. I may not know what they like or dislike
because I may not know them very well yet. If I asked my hus-
band about every single item I put on the dinner table, it would
be clear to everyone that I didn’t know Jimmy well.
Our planning should be an outpouring of the relationship
we are fostering in our God time. As we build our relationship
with the Lord, we better understand Him and His direction
for our lives. The more we read His Word and listen for His
still, small voice, the more available we’ll be when He wants us
to speak a word of hope or encouragement to someone.
So when it comes to planning, don’t sweat the small stuff,
but rather trust that as you pursue God, read His Word, and
connect with Him through prayer, He’ll lead you and guide you.
Our Plan time is simply aligning the rest of our day with
God’s heart.
