Your Morning Routine Blueprint

Set Your Plan- Time Anchor
Just like with our God time, we need to set our anchor each
morning for Plan time. When we build a morning routine of
connecting with God and then prayerfully plan our day, we lay
a secure foundation for whatever lies ahead. We know whose
we are, and we know where we are headed.
But it doesn’t have to be complicated. My Plan- time anchor
always follows my God- time anchor. As soon as I pray through
Psalm 143:8, I take a quick look at my calendar for the day. It
doesn’t take any brainpower or critical thinking. I’m just check-
ing in to see what I had already decided was important that day.
Do I have any appointments? Meetings? Is it anyone’s
birthday or anniversary? Or could it be someone’s half birth-
day? In our family, we celebrate half birthdays. Nothing fancy.
We just sing half of a birthday song and eat half of a birthday
cake. Sometimes the kids will make a half card too. But since
I don’t have those dates memorized yet, if I don’t check the
calendar, I could miss them altogether.
Whether it’s for a half birthday, a meeting, or an appoint-
ment, no one likes to feel unprepared. Checking my calendar
every morning gives me a grid not only for what is going to
happen that day but also how much room, if any, I have to add
to it. I also use this opportunity to ask God if there is anyone
I should pray for or reach out to that day.
What do you need help with when it comes to planning?
Maybe you need to review your calendar, or maybe you’ve got
that memorized and what you really need to do is simply write
two or three items on a to- do list. The three- minute morning
is a guide. You can swap out any action for something that will
