Julie didn’t have to ask anyone to do work. She just posted
her progress where others would see it. You could post something
similar on your refrigerator or on Facebook or on a blog. You
could post it in the break room at work or to a group text chat.
Blogger James Clear writes a yearly report on his goals.^3
The simple act of knowing you might report the results of your
goals is a huge motivator to pushing through on the hard days.
The beauty is that we can do this and not feel as though we are
asking too much of anyone.

Start Growing Your Accountability

The simplest way to get started with some accountability is to
simply message one friend and say, “I’m doing a three- minute
morning challenge and would love to have you join me. Simple,
but powerful. Interested?”
Once you find that friend to join you— or a spouse, child,
parent, or coworker— set your start date and commit to texting
(or whatever form of connection you want) for thirty days.
You don’t need to be perfect and do the three- minute morning
every day, but at least commit to texting.
If you don’t have anyone you can do the challenge with,
simply print out your tracker and post it where others will see
it. Check off each day as you do it. It doesn’t require anything
of anyone, but you’ll be motivated to stick with it.
Be committed to this simple step. Keep posting your habit
tracker. Eventually, someone will be curious and may even join
you. If you lose an accountability partner, be committed to
finding another.
