This pose stretches the hips. For some students, this pose is a great alter-
native to sleeping swan (page 123).
Risks and Contraindications
If you have knee pain, don’t bend forward too far.
Alignment Points


  • Begin in a seated diamond (page 121).

  • Move your left leg behind you, keeping the knee bent and the foot
    positioned behind the hip.

  • Allow the front shin to move toward the top edge of your yoga mat.

  • Let your weight naturally lean to the left.

  • With your hands on the  oor in front of you, allow your torso to fold
    over toward the  oor.

  • Repeat on the other side.
    Modi cations and Other Options

  • If you experience pain in the front knee, put a cushion under that
    hip for support.

  • For a more calming effect, place a bolster under the torso or a block
    under the forehead.
