international relations theory. Prestige, as one of these concepts, deserves
our renewed attention. Veblen’s statement, which opens this chapter, sum-
marizes much of his approach to social science. Good research makes us
think and generates valuable questions. In this book I introduced many
new concepts and frameworks to the study of international relations. I
tried to take a bite at a broad, and so far elusive, theoretical concept. While
the current venture produced many interesting findings, it is my hope that
I was even more successful in generating additional questions and theo-
retical challenges such that “two questions grow where only one grew
before.”
