I
f you read last month’s article, you’ll
recall I have been driving around part
of the NC500 route in the Scottish
Highlands. As well as enjoying the most
magnificent scenery I’ve been collecting
photographs and sketches to work into
larger paintings. Last month I showed
you my process of building up an idea
from the photo (right) to thumbnails
and sketches until I was happy this
would produce a pleasing painting.
I hope you enjoy this project and it
encourages you to explore Scotland.
If you happen to see someone painting
next to their motorhome, do say hello.
It might be me! LP

BEFORE YOU BEGIN
I prepared a half Imperial sheet of Saunders
Waterford High White Rough paper using
my Keba Artmate Paper Stretcher.
Alternatively, you could use the traditional
method of stretching the paper onto
a plywood board using gummed tape or
even use masking tape to hold it down
if your paper is the heavyweight 300lb
(640gsm) or you choose a smaller sheet
of paper. Whatever you decide, I do
recommend using 100% cotton rag
Artists’ quality paper for the best results.
I kept my board at an angle during
most of the painting.
