MINERAL OIL. It has been decried as comedogenic, meaning that it can clog pores
and increase the risk of breakouts, but there is little clinical support for this.
‘Cosmetic-grade mineral oil is a safe and highly effective moisturiser,’ says the
dermatologist Dr Sam Bunting.

NIACINAMIDE, a brilliant
all-rounder that can be easily
slotted into a daily routine.
Also known as vitamin B3, it

evens skin tone, as well as
helping to restore the natural
production of ceramides.
BAZAAR RECOMMENDS: Dr
Sam’s Flawless Moisturiser, £25

OXYGEN FACIALS, which use high

vitamins or hydrators further into

a blast of hydrogen, one of the

RETINOIDS, which encompasses
prescription-strength retinoids and weaker
over-the-counter retinols, both derivatives
of vitamin A. When converted into retinoic
acid in the skin, retinoids stimulate cellular
turnover for a smoother complexion.
‘ They a lso help to unclog pores to combat
blemishes, while enhancing collagen
production,’ says Isaacs. There are different
strengths available, from 0.01 to 1 per cent.
It is advisable to start on a lower one until
your skin acclimatises, to avoid irritation.
BAZAAR RECOMMENDS: SkinCeuticals
