Think of it as a
smart cookie jar
for perishable
produce. Fill up
the VeggiDome
with an
assortment of
cleaned fruits and
vegetables, and
place it in a highly
visible spot on
your kitchen table
or counter to
encourage
healthy cooking
and snacking.
The glass dome
keeps moisture
inside while a
colander-style
base prevents
water (and
bacteria) from
accumulating
around the food.
The loose-fitting
lid lets naturally
occurring
ethylene gas
escape, which is
good because
ethylene speeds
up the ripening
process. The
result? Fresh
produce stays
top-of-mind and
fresh for 4 to
6 days without
refrigeration. $70;

THE FEED
A
s a healthy
alternative to sugar
in recipes, date
paste owes
everything to the fruit it’s made
from. Date palms grow in
desertlike conditions, and the
hot sun concentrates the fruit’s
natural sugars, creating an
intensely sweet, caramelized
taste. With their tender texture,
all dates need is a soak in hot
water and a quick blitz in the
food processor to be
transformed into an all-purpose
sweetener that enhances other
flavors without overpowering
them. Nutrition bonus: Unlike
table sugar, a single Medjool
date contains vitamins,
minerals, and 1.6 grams of fiber.

In a bowl or large
measuring cup cover
1 lb. (about 2½ cups)
pitted fresh dates
(any variety) with
1 cup boiling water.
Let dates soak 3 to
8 hours. Blend dates
and their soaking
liquid in a food
processor until
smooth, adding more
liquid if necessary
to achieve a thick,
spreadable
consistency. Makes
3 cups.
Date paste can be
stored for up to
1 month in the fridge
or up to 6 months in
the freezer.
FREEZER TIP:
Scoop date paste in
1-oz. (2-Tbsp.) dollops
onto a parchment-
lined baking sheet
and freeze until solid.
Store dollops in a
resealable plastic
bag. The small
portions thaw quickly
and make it easy to
take out just what you
need for a recipe.
