I have loved drawing for as far back as I can
remember. My dad gave me a sketchbook some
time in grade school (which I still have!), and for
my 11th birthday, my mom and dad gave me an
easel, oil paints and brushes. I took oil painting
lessons that year after school, from a lady who
taught mostly adults down in her basement.
I was constantly sketching, and my favorite
subject was drawing people. I took every art
class that was offered in junior high and high
school. As an art major in college, my favorite
classes were Life Drawing 1 and 2, where we had
a live model every day in class (nudes, too!). Art
typically doesn't pay the bills, so I changed majors
the second half of my Junior year, to business
(boring!), and minored in Art. As a fiber artist, it's
been fun using my drawing skills for appliqué
designs, and more recently, fabric designs.
Although I've always loved to piece, designing for
appliqué has been a more creative outlet for me. I
now use Adobe Illustrator to trace my sketchbook
drawings for appliqué or fabric designs, and
have more recently been playing around using
a Wacom tablet to trace drawings in a more
painterly way (for fabric design).“A Life of Plenty”
