Enlarge patterns in Pattern Pack onto white
paper; cut out. Cut four head pieces from
osnaburg, aligning pattern grain line with
grain in fabric.
On doubled osnaburg, trace body
pattern using a pencil; do not cut out.
Fold square of wool in half with right
sides together; fold in half again to make a
41 ⁄ 2 -inch square. Trace jacket pattern onto
folded wool piece, using a chalk pencil and
placing pattern on fold lines as indicated on
pattern; cut out.
Cut two pants from flannel. On doubled
osnaburg, trace hat crown and hat brim; do
not cut out hat pieces.

SEW HEAD AND BODY
Sew with right sides together unless
otherwise stated. Using ivory button
thread, stitch together two head pieces as
indicated by the dashed line on the pattern;

leave an opening where indicated. Repeat
with remaining two head pieces. Open
pieces; press seam allowances open. Join
the two pairs along curved edges to make
the head.
Turn head right side out and stuff firmly
with polyester fiberfill. Sew a gathering
stitch^1 ⁄ 4 inch from open edge of head. Pull
thread tightly to close opening; secure
thread ends.
Sew together body pieces, stitching on
traced lines and leaving opening where
indicated on the pattern. Cut out body a
scant^1 ⁄ 4 inch from stitching. Clip curves;
turn right side. Stuff firmly with polyester
fiberfill; sew opening closed.

SEW JACKET, PANTS, AND HAT

Open one fold of jacket. Stitch one side
edge and underarm. Repeat for other side
and underarm. Clip corners. Turn jacket
right side out. Cut up through center of
one wool layer for jacket opening. Cut a
2-inch slit along top fold for neck opening.
Sew together pants pieces along long
edges. Sew together at inseam. Leave top
of pants and bottom of each pant leg open.
Clip corners and turn right side out.
Using ivory button thread, sew together
the hat brim pieces on the traced line; trim
close to stitching. Cut a slit through one
layer of fabric; turn hat brim right side out
through the slit. Sew the hat crown pieces
together on the traced lines, leaving an
opening along one narrow edge; trim close
to stitching and traced line of opening.
Turn hat crown right side out. Stuff the
hat crown firmly with fiberfill and stitch
opening closed.
Paint hat brim and hat crown with black;
let dry. Hot-glue a narrow edge of hat
crown to center of unslit side of hat brim.

ANTIQUE THE SNOWMAN

To create an antiquing wash, dissolve 2 or
3 tablespoons of instant coffee in 1 cup
hot water; add more coffee to increase
darkness if desired. Using a foam brush,
apply wash over head and pants; let dry.

Preheat oven to 225°F. Place head
and pants on a baking sheet lined
with parchment paper. Bake until dry,
checking often.

ADD SNOWMAN DETAILS

Referring to photo, opposite, use a pencil
to lightly draw dots on the head for eyes,
nose, and mouth.
Go to page 111 or BHG.com/HCStitches
to see stitch diagrams. Using black button
thread, take a small anchor stitch at neck
(head gathers). Push needle through head
and out one eye dot. Fill the eye dot with
several small straight stitches. Push needle
back through head to initial anchor stitch at
neck. Repeat to stitch the other eye.
In the same manner as for the eyes,
push the needle up through neck and stitch
a black French knot at each mouth dot.
Lightly brush cheeks with cosmetic blush.
Poke tip of scissors into nose dot. Push
hot glue into hole and insert dried carrot
into hole for nose; let cool.
Apply hot glue to head gathers and
adhere head to body; let cool.
Hot-glue pants to body. Sew bells along
cut slit on jacket front. Put jacket on body,
cutting neck opening larger if necessary.
Hot-glue jacket opening closed with bells
on top. Hot-glue a twig inside each sleeve
for an arm and each pant leg for a leg,
leaving about 1^1 ⁄ 2 inches of twig extending
past the end of sleeve or pant leg.
Hot-glue tin snowflake to hat and
hot-glue hat to head; let cool. Tie and
hot-glue wool strip around snowman’s neck
for a scarf.
Position snowman’s arms over body.
Hot-glue an artificial pine sprig inside one
arm; hot-glue sleeves in place.
If desired, for a hanging loop, stitch
an 8-inch length of black button thread
through the back of hat. Tie ends
into a knot.
Lightly coat snowman with spray
adhesive and sprinkle with mica flakes;
let dry.
