DISTRESSING ENHANCES

OF FENCE WOOD. SAND TO
EMPHASIZE THE GRAIN.

MATERIALS


24-inch piece of 1×4 fence wood
Jigsaw
Medium-grit sandpaper
Paint: white
Foam paintbrush
Wood glue
Staple gun with heavy-duty staples
D-ring hanger
Two-ply jute


Enlarge the patterns in Pattern Pack onto
white paper; cut out. Trace patterns onto
fence wood. Cut out the shapes using
a jigsaw.
Sand cut edges of each wood piece.
Wipe off sanding dust. Paint the wings and
body white; let dry. Sand wood pieces to
distress; wipe off sanding dust.
Referring to the photo, below, position
the wings on back of angel body so straight
edge of wings is even with neckline. Using
wood glue, adhere wings to body. Staple
together pieces through the back.
Attach a D-ring hanger to the center
back of wings. Tie jute in a bow around
angel’s neck.

MATERIALS


 1×6 board cut into two 24-inch lengths
1×4 board cut into one 24-inch length
Biscuit joiner and biscuits
1×1 board cut into two 24-inch lengths
and two 15^1 ∕ 2 -inch lengths
Nail gun and brads
Wood stain
Paintbrush
Stencil plastic
Fine-tip permanent marking pen: black
Crafts knife
Stencil adhesive
Stencil brush
Acrylic paint: white
7-inch artificial holiday wreath
Staple gun and staples

ASSEMBLE THE SIGN


Referring to the photo, above, lay the
1×6 boards on either side of the 1×4
board. Using a biscuit joiner and biscuits,
join the boards along the side edges to
make the sign. Frame the sign with the
1×1-inch boards. Use brads to attach the
two 24-inch boards to long edges of the
sign. Attach the two 15^1 ∕ 2 -inch boards to
short edges.
Brush wood stain onto the sign and
frame. Wipe off stain with a clean rag.
Let dry.

MAKE THE STENCIL
Enlarge patterns in Pattern Pack onto
white paper. Trace letters onto stencil
plastic using a fi ne-tip permanent
marking pen. Cut stencil plastic into a
rectangle around each shape. Cut out
letters on traced lines using a crafts knife.

PAINT THE PLYWOOD
Use stencil adhesive to attach the
stencils to the plywood, leaving about
11½ inches between the letters to
accommodate the wreath. Load a stencil
brush with white paint. Dab the brush on
a paper towel or paper plate to remove
excess paint. Lightly tap the brush in
open area of each stencil. Continue to
load brush, remove excess paint, and
apply light layers until you are satisfi ed
with the paint coverage; let dry. Carefully
remove stencils from sign.
Attach wreath between the letters
using a staple gun.
