The painting process consists of
applying very loose acrylic paint
with no predetermined image
in mind, then drawing into the
wet paint with charcoal to define
major shapes. Preliminary color
and line work may be obliterated
in the final image. The title is
determined by the imagery in the
final painting.

mixed media on panel.
Starting with a memory, an
old document, a photo {and
an enlarged copy of the same
photo}, X"ray, magazine
picture, corrugated paper,
acrylic paint, the pieces were
moved around on the birch
panel until they made a pleas-
ing design. The pieces were
then glued down with matte
medium. paint was used to
make shapes and lines, the
entire piece was painted with
acrylic semigloss and sanded
with 360-grit sandpaper when
dry. Wax was applied and the
piece was buffed to give it a
soft patina.
