T’S been ages since he was in South
Africa for work. Home has been Holly
wood for decades and he’s carved a
comfortable life for himself near the
ocean, walking his dog in the hills of
Los Angeles and keeping house for his
accountant wife when he’s between
jobs.
But Arnold Vosloo is back, lured by a
project he finds both intriguing and dis
turbing. He plays police colonel Dick de
Waal in the movie Griekwastad, based
on the triple family murder that rocked
South Africa and tore the Northern Cape
farming community apart.
The movie – which is in Afrikaans with
English subtitles – debuted at the annu
al Silwerskermfees in Camps Bay, Cape
Town, and will soon make the rounds on
the international film festival circuit be
fore it hits cinemas.
Arnold (57) looks cool and calm in a
purple shirt and black pants, sipping a
bottle of local craft beer, when we meet
him in the lobby of a Stellenbosch hotel.
