HAPPY BIRTHDAYfor Tuesday,
Aug. 27, 2019:
This year, you often find yourself
dealingwithdifficultpeople.
Learn to distance yourself and
not get tied up in their games. If
single, distance yourself if you
feel you have encountered a diffi-
cult or coy person. You need to
keep space open for a person
who can relate well to you. If at-
tached, you might get into power
plays with your sweetie. Learn
not to play. The results might be
tumultuous at first, but they'll be
better in the long run. LEO dem-
onstrates the power of positive
thinking.
ARIES(March 21-April 19)
Your personal and domestic life
seems to keep your mind active, if
not your body. Understand what
is going on with the other parties
and seek a mutually acceptable
response. A positive attitude goes
far. Tonight: Easy works.
TAURUS(April 20-May 20)
You might be facing some chang-
es in your perspective as you
delve into a new topic or attempt
to handle a situation differently.
Many of you will opt to travel.
Plans made could easily need re-
adjustment. Tonight: Rather than
act, think.
GEMINI(May 21-June 20)
Deal with a work-related or finan-
cial matter quickly before it gets
out of hand. You want it handled
with exactness. Tap into a savvy
friend's knowledge to make sure
you have handled it appropriately.
Tonight: Meet a friend for munch-
ies.
CANCER(June 21-July 22)
You know what you want. Despite
a loved one's nagging, you get al-
most everything you need to com-
plete done. A partner or loved one
could make demands, holding
you up. Tonight: A splurge might
be in order.
LEO(July 23-Aug. 22)
Once you get through the day's
mental gymnastics, you will kick
back and enjoy yourself. Do that
quickly when you see your way
out. Someone around you is very
controlling. Tonight: Meet up
with friends.
VIRGO(Aug. 23-Sept. 22)
If possible, maintain distance
from a controlling person or situ-
ation. You do not want to get into
this game mentally and have it
play a role in your life. Kick back.
Someone who you enjoy and do
not need to play games with ap-
pears. Tonight: Be mysterious.
Vanish, if you can.
LIBRA(Sept. 23-Oct. 22)
Deal with a professional or work-
related matter head-on. Do not
try to ignore or bypass the situa-
tion. You might be dealing with
an excessively controlling individ-
ual. Tonight: Lighten up and join
friends.
SCORPIO(Oct. 23-Nov. 21)
You absorb the big picture of an
issue by identifying with the other
parties and what they might want
and expect. As a result, a difficult
situation becomes much easier.
Help others see a more complete
picture. Tonight: A must appear-
ance. Count on a late bedtime.
SAGITTARIUS(Nov. 22-Dec. 21)
Relate on a one-on-one level to
achieve a goal. You like to read-
just old agreements so that they
become applicable again. You will
have an opportunity for this in
the near future, if not today. To-
night: Make plans for a mini-get-
away.
CAPRICORN(Dec. 22-Jan. 19)
You find others difficult and
somewhat intolerable. As a result,
you might need to create more
space between you and another
person, just for now. You might
also be stubbornly holding onto a
belief. Tonight: With a favorite
person.
AQUARIUS(Jan. 20-Feb. 18)
A day-to-day situation weighs on
you and might cause you to be
somewhat down or tired. You feel
as if you must continue on your
chosen path. You will see a way
out once you decide the only way
to win a power play is not to
play! Tonight: Accept an invita-
tion that seems too good to be
true.
PISCES(Feb. 19-March 20)
You would prefer a difficult per-
son show their true colors rather
than having to wonder and weigh
this person's behavior and re-
sponses. You might choose to ig-
nore them for now. Tonight: Make
it early, if possible.

Cy the Cynic says you should always look both ways
before crossing a woman.
“Are you and Wendy still having trouble on defense?” I
asked Cy.
“She said I sabotaged us in this deal,” Cy said, displaying
today’s layout. “I guess she was right, for once.”
Against three hearts, Wendy led the king of spades as
West, and Cy signaled with the nine. Wendy duly led the
ace and a third spade.
“I ruffed,” Cy said, “but all I could do was take my ace of
clubs. South made his bid, and Wendy was irate. She said
I’d crossed her up.”
Cy’s nine of spades was wrong. He wants a club shift,
notmorespades,henceheshouldsignal“attitude”with
his deuce. If Wendy shifts to a club, Cy takes two clubs and
returns a spade. Wendy takes the jack and ace and leads a
fourth spade, and Cy overruffs dummy with his jack and
leads a third club, promoting Wendy’s queen of trumps.
Down three instead of making three!
Don’t mislead your partner. Let your signals direct the
defense.
DAILY QUESTIONYou hold:♠AKJ6♥♥Q7♦♦ 97632 ♣ 7

  1. Your partner opens one heart, you bid one spade and he
rebids two hearts. The opponents pass. What do you say?

ANSWER:This case is close. Your partner has at least six
cards in hearts, and you have a useful queen and a possible
ruffing value in clubs. Bid three hearts, especially if vulner-
able with more to gain by making a game.
