“That Can’t Be Healthy” by Ryan Good
Introduction: In this episode, Eve is forced to travel to
Connecticut for a funeral after her mother’s sudden death.
Villanelle follows Eve to America to toy with her as revenge.
Eve knows Villanelle is nearby, but this scene is the first
time she sees her after the stabbing in Paris.
EXT. LARGE CHURCH - GREENWICH - DAY
Eve gets out of the back of a black town car and approaches
the funeral for her mother, Colleen. She walks up the steps
but stops short. She walks back down the steps as if to
leave and stops again. She steadies herself and walks back up
the steps into the church.
INT. LARGE CHURCH - GREENWICH - LATER
Olivia (Eve’s sister) is ending a eulogy. She is in tears.
OLIVIA
-- Mom wasn’t much of a feelings
person. For most of my life, I
thought she just didn’t want to see
us and that’s why she worked so late
and traveled all the time. It
wasn’t until years later, talking to
a tipsy Uncle Robert at Christmas,
that I found out she had been taking
extra speaking engagements so she
could send money to support a family
she had grown close to while
researching in Africa. So I
confronted her. I said, “You did
this wonderful thing. Why was it
such a secret?” Mom just shrugged
and said, “It seemed like the right
thing to do.” That was my mom.
Quietly taking care of as many
people as she could.
The PRIEST approaches and embraces Olivia. Olivia then sits
down next to Eve.
PRIEST
Thank you, Olivia, for sharing that
lovely story of your mother’s
generosity. And in that spirit,
since Colleen touched so many lives,
at this time we’d like to open the
floor to any other members of her
family--
He pauses and looks directly at Eve, who shakes her head no.
