PRIEST (CONT'D)
-- or friends who would like to
share a memory. Oh yes, I see a
hand in the back. Come right up.

Heels of well-made shoes click and reverberate through the

church. Eve turns. Villanelle, in a stunning black dress,
walks up to the front. Eve is frozen in shock. Villanelle
begins a eulogy in a perfect American accent.

VILLANELLE
Um. Many of you don’t know me. I
was one of those people whose lives
were touched by Colleen. When
Colleen and I first met, I was just
a brash, overconfident freshman. I
knew that I could face any test and
just kill it. But I was failing
Colleen’s class. So, I went to her
office one evening. The sun was
setting in the window behind her.
It looked like something out of a
movie.

OLIVIA
(whispering to Eve)
Who is that?

Eve does not acknowledge Olivia.

VILLANELLE
Then she took down her hair and
tossed it around. And that, that was
it for me. I didn’t hear another
word she said. And Colleen saw that
I was somewhere else and she yelled
“Vi!” I’m Vi, by the way, hello.
She yelled “Vi!” and took a letter
opener from the desk and stabbed it
straight into my...essay. And that
certainly got my attention.

Olivia hits Eve’s leg to get her attention.

OLIVIA
Eve. Who is that?

VILLANELLE
For the next four years, I visited
her weekly. Even after I changed
majors. I didn’t get an A, but she
taught me how to be with a powerful
woman. And, in turn, I taught her
to forget her husband.
