34 > NZ HOT ROD SEPTEMBER 2019
GRANT Eckers is an almond farmer in Waterford,
California who owns a large collection of
‘50s and ‘ 6 0s cars plus a handful of hot rods.
We stumbled on this collection by chance.
We were going for a walk down the road and
estorer who owned a Model A sedan
y and a 1956 Chevy pickup. We got
talking about cars, and he asked if we’d seen
the collection of cars located just around
the corner? We thought it’d be a heap of old
wrecks, so we didn’t go around to visit.
Sometime later, when Kevin and Sandra Lamb
were visiting from Nelson, we ventured around
to check out this collection. What a surprise
we got! Yes, there were a lot of old cars but
not wrecks at all, but there was a parts section
which would interest any hot rodder. Grant has
had Guillain-Barre syndrome (where the body’s
immune system attacks your nerves), so it was
onto the golf cart for him as he led us down to
the shed, what eye candy greeted us! He has
about 50-60 cars in the shed as well as a few about50-60carsintheshedaswelabout50-60carsintheshedaswell
other old trinkets such as bikes, A Chris Craft
boat, signs and other memorabilia. Grant has
a few hot rods such as a ’33 Ford 5W coupe,
Model A pickup with a Cook OHV conversion
under the hood plus a ’46 Ford convertible. His
An uber-cool ’51 Studebaker Starlight coupe.
