Thread the 15/32-24 nut on the burnishing tool into
hole 3 on the oil pump body using a 9/16" wrench.

Install the retainer screw into hole 3 using a large
flathead screwdriver.

Install the three nuts and one bolt that attach the oil
pump to the cam cover with a 7/16" wrench.

Repeat step 15 for hole 3.

Clean the surface of the cam cover where the oil pump
mates, using a clean paper towel dipped in lacquer
thinner. Make sure there are no pieces of the old gasket
remaining on the surface. If old gasket material re-
mains, it can be carefully removed with a razor blade.

Remove the plug from the oil feed line and reattach the
line to the pump using an 11/16" wrench to tighten the
flare nut.

Install new balls and springs into holes 1 and 2. The
check ball is inserted first, followed by the spring
and then capped with the retainer screw. Tighten the
retainer screw with a large flathead screwdriver.

Install a new oil pump gasket onto the cam cover.

Place the floorboard bracket back onto its mounting
studs.

Install a new ball and spring into hole 3. The check
ball is inserted first, followed by the spring and is then
held in place by the internal spring preload screw. Use
a flathead screwdriver to install the internal spring
preload screw back into the pump body, making sure
to count the number of turns so it matches the number
needed to remove it.

Install the oil pump onto to the cam cover, making sure
that the “fingers” which protrude from the cam cover
(white arrows) engage properly in the slot on the oil
pump (black arrows). The oil pump can be turned by
hand to align it properly. The oil pump body will be
flush with the cam cover when installed correctly. Install the front exhaust mount using two 1/2" wrenches.
