Scale Aviation Modeller International – September 2019

(Elle) #1
the entire model over several
very thin coats, just enough to
cover the pre-shading but still
keeping it fairly visible as I am
aware that the paint from the
other colour would build this
up. I then used MRP Masking
Putty to try and keep the
dark tan colour as close to the
instruction sheet as possible,
however, I didn’t manage
to get it quite right, so I am
afraid this is not an accurate
representation of an actual
aircraft, but it is close. The
process was repeated for the
green colour. I ind the masking
putty is a great, easy and clean
way to get the camoulage

painted without the need for
a masking set or those blue/
white worms that many people
use. I can highly recommend
this technique to anybody.

DECALING
Now that the model was fully
painted, it was time to put on
the decals. Thankfully this

aircraft does not have a million
stencils, so the decaling was
completed over the course
of a short evening. I used a
combination of Micro Set and
Micro Sol to get the best from
the kit supplied decals which
to be honest are as good as
any straight out of the box
kit. I had no issues of tearing
or breaking. Once the decals
were allowed to dry and cure
over night, I applied several

thin coats of MRP Gloss to seal
everything in and prepare the
surface for the weathering.

WEATHERING
I let the gloss coat dry and cure
for twenty-four hours, before
I applied a decent covering of
Flory Models Dark Dirt Wash.
Given this is a desert bird,
rather than allowing the wash
to dry and then wipe of with a

To pick out the panel lines I added a

Dirt Wash
